PAPR Mask for Covid - 19

Open source design of a POWERED, AIR-PURIFYING RESPIRATOR PAPR.

RKid is proud to bring you our contribution towards a protective gear solution for the COVID – 19 pandemic: a powered, air-purifying respirator – (PAPR).

Our design is aimed at the maker community” -individuals and communities with a focus on making something tangible in tech – as a DIY-friendly solution to be deployed in hospitals and care units to protect vulnerable medical personnel.

OPEN SOURCE DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

We started off by conceptualizing the design around the ablilties that local makers communities have, materials available to them, as well as other stuff that one has access to during a lock-down scenario. The aim was to design a mask and pump that could be made locally and in record time.

A number of design aspects were developed and crudely tested in a short perios of time. (Our studio and workshop have never been in such a mess after this week of innovation and problem solving!)

The Need

To design a reusable face mask that can be produced locally in a decentralised way.

Local makers communities must be able to construct the design with standard materials, using digital manufacturing technology. The unit will consist of a face mask and an air supply .

The How

RKid is fortunate to have a proper workshop and many tools that makers also will have available. Parts were designed around digital manufacturing as a first available option. Didgital machines and tools such as CNC router  and 3D printing .

The Where

Please help to keep our caretakers and medical personnel protected during this pandemic. If you are a maker or a DIY enthusiast, please download this and contribute in making parts that could save lives. This is a time that we all need to offer our assistance to all humanity in the battle against the Covid-19 virus.

Our Journey

Our open source design is available at no cost to the “maker community” – individuals and communities with a focus on making something tangible in tech – as a DIY-friendly solution to be deployed in hospitals and care units to protect vulnerable medical personnel. It can be made from materials and other stuff that are readily available during a lock-down scenario. The mask and pump can be made locally and in record time.

This is an opportunity for us in the design and maker communities to contribute in our own way to save lives, in this case, our medical workers in the front line whom we admire and salute!
